In a span of two weeks, three separate queries relating to poor manager-employee relations were found in my mailbox! One was about being constantly picked on for every possible reason. What is ‘unbearable' he writes, is the shouting that he gets in public, for something gone wrong or done wrongly. The two other queries were similar.
The solution to this is contained in 3 steps:
1 Convey to the individual, who is flying-off-the-handle, that you can’t handle his or her behaviour and that you would like to be spoken to in civil tones and language. And say, Please!
2 If point number one does not change anything, go back to point number one. Yes, reiterate that you are open to correction and change but would like to be spoken to in a dignified and respectful manner. When you point out that you are open to criticism, you are conveying that the interaction can be highly professional and that you want to genuinely learn on the job, minus the theatrical behaviour.
3 If points one and two do not bear the desired results in one working week, escalate the issue to the next level. If there are right-minded people at the decision making level, it is likely that the necessary course correction will be effected - a reaction that is expected of progressive organizations.
If not, you are in the wrong place.
